The schedule is tight. The traffic in LA is crazy. You’re starving, and could kill for your favorite cheeseburger, but can’t get takeout. What do you do? When you’re running against the clock, there’s only one thing you can do – use a Los Angeles food delivery service.
If you’re from LA and are looking for a reliable service that can deliver grub from your favorite restaurants and cafes to your doorstep, keep reading.
In this article, I’ll review 6 of the best Los Angeles food delivery services.
Let’s order some food.
Uber Eats – The Go-to Food Delivery Service in Los Angeles
As someone who’s waist-deep in product marketing and growth hacking, I find myself frequently traveling to LA and other parts of California to meet with clients. Whenever I do, I can always rely on Uber Eats to deliver food from my favorite local restaurants.
Launched in 2014, Uber Eats is an online food delivery platform where you can find all of your favorite bistros and chains under one roof (or app).
It was one of the first online marketplaces for restaurants to launch in the United States and had a major role in laying the foundation for the industry.
The reason I almost always pick Uber Eats – no matter where I am – is that it has never once let me down. I’ve never once experienced any delays or cancelations.
And compared to other services, Uber Eats has the widest selection of restaurants to choose from.
If you’ve never used Uber Eats in LA before, check out all of their partner restaurants and decide for yourself.
The Perfect Substitute for UberEats? DoorDash
While I’ve never personally experienced any problems with Uber Eats, I can safely say that DoorDash is just as good.
Launched in 2013, DoorDash is an online food ordering and delivery service, similar to Uber Eats, that partners with different restaurants.
As of now, DoorDash is available in all major US cities and is currently one of the best Los Angeles food delivery services.
In terms of service and restaurant options, DoorDash trumps all food delivery platforms and is almost as good as Uber Eats.
Top 6 Los Angeles Food Delivery Services
In Los Angeles, where life moves fast but the traffic is (ironically) the worst, online food delivery services have become a necessity.
And now, when we can’t even dine in or order takeout due to the coronavirus pandemic, they’ve become even more important.
But which service do you pick?
Whether you’re in the City of Los Angeles, or somewhere else within LA County (Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Glendale, or Pasadena), you can count on these platforms to deliver:
1. Uber Eats
Uber Eats tops my list of the best Los Angeles food delivery services.
Meant as a standalone and singular platform (though Uber has now embedded this service into their main app), Uber Eats is a service that allows you to order food from your favorite restaurants from the comfort of your home.
But that’s what every food delivery service does – so what makes Uber Eats special?
For starters, the service is widely available in the entirety of the US. As of now, there’s hardly any city that doesn’t have Uber Eats. It’s also one of the best options for food delivery in New York, Chicago, and other major hubs in not just the states, but all over North America.
Additionally, Uber Eats partners with thousands of restaurants in the US, providing you with more options on one, single platform.
Feel like having Italian food, but the rest of your friends are thinking Asian?
Or maybe it’s tacos you’re craving today?
With Uber Eats, you can order from multiple restaurants at once.
In addition to having a wide range of options, another great thing I love about Uber Eats is its brilliant customer support, which is available round-the-clock to address any concerns. You can also track your order in real-time.
Uber Eats also offers exciting promotional discounts and has a rewards program that can save you big.
All in all, Uber Eats is the ultimate food delivery service that doesn’t have any drawbacks.
To order through Uber Eats, simply:
- Download the app or visit the website and create your account.
- Select from the list of restaurants that deliver to your address.
- Add items to your cart.
- Proceed to checkout and click on “Place Order.”
- Track your order in real-time.

Operating in over 850 cities in the US, DoorDash is second on my list of the top Los Angeles food delivery services.
I also named it as one of the best options for food delivery in Chicago and New York.
Like Uber Eats, DoorDash partners with several international chains and local eateries to deliver deliciousness to your doorstep.
From sushi and ramen to fajitas and burritos there isn’t anything you can’t order through DoorDash.
One of the things I like most about this app is its “Group Order” feature. It lets multiple people conveniently add items to the cart through one account and save big on delivery fees.
It works by generating a shareable link that multiple people can use to add their items to a single, shared cart (they don’t need to create/use separate DoorDash accounts to use this feature).
That way, you don’t have to pass your phone around, which not only saves time when you’re ordering as a group but is also safe, considering the dangers of COVID-19.
Furthermore, DoorDash also gives you the option to schedule food deliveries in advance, allowing you to plan ahead and treat your future-self to your favorite meals.
To learn more about their services, visit their website or download their mobile app.
Grubhub is another major food ordering and delivery platform operating in the US (and is one of the oldest players in this industry).
Whether you’re ordering from DTLA, Hollywood, Koreatown, Venice, Echo Park, Echo Park, Silver Lake, or any other neighborhood in LA, you can rely on Grubhub to deliver food from your favorite restaurants.
The best thing about Grubhub is all of the discounts and perks (deals) that it offers.
If you’re running low on cash and could use a discount, Grubhub has a special feature that lets you enter your address to search for restaurants offering deals.
Furthermore, if you’re a student and use Grubhub for the first time, you can get $12 off your order if it exceeds $15.
The service offers both delivery and pickup/takeout.
The next on my list of the top Los Angeles food delivery services is Caviar – an “all-in-one” online marketplace for restaurants.
In terms of flexibility, not a lot of platforms come close to Caviar. This is because it has separate service options for individuals and companies.
To help employers offer free meals as a perk, Caviar offers corporate food delivery and a catering service.
If you’re an employer who wants to treat their team members to some good food but are on a budget, this may be the perfect option for you. You can either go for a comprehensive white-glove catering service, order as a group (works the same way as the group order feature of DoorDash), or let employees order individually.
Additionally, with an extensive list of filters, you can easily find restaurants that match your dietary preferences (for instance, you can filter out restaurants that serve vegan or gluten-free items).
You can also search for restaurants by the cuisine-type, such as Mediterranean, Thai, BBQ, dessert/ice cream, etc.
Postmates is an on-demand delivery service that connects its users with not only local restaurants and eateries, but grocery stores as well – making it the perfect “urban logistics” platform.
In terms of savings and discounts, Postmates is one of the better options.
The platform has an exclusive membership service known as “Postmates Unlimited” that offers unlimited free deliveries on all orders that exceed $10. Think of it like Amazon Prime – but only for restaurants and local stores.
On top of that, members also receive special offers, giveaways, exemption from higher prices during peak hours, and access to events.
Furthermore, there are certain LA eateries that are only listed on Postmates, such as SUGARFISH, HiHo Cheeseburger, and Uovo, to name a few.
If you’re a pizza lover who likes to try out new pizzerias, you have to try Slice.
As you can probably tell, Slice lets you discover and order from the best pizza places near you.
You can easily find the best pizza chains and products by searching according to location, brand, and pizza type (stuffed, Sicilian, gluten-free, etc.).
Like most online food delivery platforms, the delivery fee varies from restaurant to restaurant, with some offering free deliveries.
As of now, Slice has national coverage and partners with about 10,000 pizzerias.
And that concludes my list of the top 6 Los Angeles food delivery services.
All of the services mentioned are available as iOS and Android apps.
Remember – by using these services, you can save big with exclusive offers and discounts, get access to more restaurants on a single platform, have your orders delivered faster, and most importantly, support local eateries.
Again, while there are many options to choose from, I highly recommend giving Uber Eats or DoorDash a shot.
That’s because these platforms offer better customer service, more options in terms of cuisine, exciting deals, and much more.
Have a nice meal!
